Because webpages lack tactile abilities, I'll offer brief and accurate descriptions of the products I create.
BURLAP:
Burlap lends itself well to a wide range of products.
JACKETS: Let me begin by telling you that ALL jackets are custom made. Because the human body is so variable, it seems wrong to assume that everyone who wears a medium size has the same arm length! With that said, and specific measurements in hand, I begin construction! Jackets are made of the finest quality, most visually interesting bags that I have. And, by the way, it typically takes more than two bags to construct a jacket. The prominent graphics are on the back of the jacket, and some demarkation of 'fair trade' or 'organic' usually find their way to the front. When a design, or lettering, carries to both sides of the jacket front, care is taken to align the left and right sides in a fashion that makes the lettering or design appear uninterrupted.
Each jacket piece is serged to an exactly corresponding piece of muslin or cotton, for stablilty of the burlap AND to provide a lining. Standard jacket has durable front zipper (double sliding on 26" or longer), brown canvas collar, brown canvas trim at sleeve cuffs, and burlap patch pockets. Inside pockets can easily be added to cotton or muslin lining.
Need a little added warmth? A layer of cotton batting (flat, dense, and a reasonable defense against the wind) can be sewn between the burlap and the lining. In place of batting, a layer of polarfleece (authentic Malden Mills polarfleece), either 100 weight or 200 weight, can be sewn into the jacket. While some prefer this layer to be next to their skin, others prefer it to be sewn between the burlap and the lining. Fleece is a bit more structurally sound than cotton batting is, but does not appeal to everyone.
Want to add some stylin'? Replace the canvas on the top of the collar and at the ends of the sleeves with leather!
VESTS: Also custom made, vests are versitile. They're as attractive with your favorite old blue jeans as they are with a nice skirt (woolens or kakhis, for the men). They can be left open-fronted, or closed with buttons, or monkey's fists and loops. Constructed in much the same fashion as the jackets are, each piece that's cut from burlap is serged to a corresponding piece cut from muslin or cotton. This serves as a stabilizer for the burlap and a lining for the garment. All vests sport a leather back-band on a vest slide, unless otherwise requested. Armholes are bound with pliable cotton webbing (tan or bronzey-brown; whichever compliments the hues of the burlap). One, two or three inside pockets can be built in.
HATS: Remember 'tippy hats', or fisherman's hats as they have been known? Burlap (again) lends itself well to construction and wearability. It's light and breathable, can be lined with cotton alone or with a layer of fleece between the burlap and the cotton for cooler months.
SKIRTS: The forever-stylish A-line skirt never looked so good! With a muslin backing to the burlap, there's no worry about the weave loosening in the seat. Skirt is fully lined with a standard lining fabric to negate the need for a slip to keep it from clinging to hose or tights. Rear pockets (jeans style) are bound at the top edge with canvas or leather. Skirt zips in the back (unless otherwise specified by you).
BAGS: Several to choose from here:
MARKET BAGS are flat in construction, and typically utilize the more vibrant and prominent parts of a bag. They are lined with colorful cotton that compliments any graphics, and have either burlap/cotton handles or heavy cotton web handles. Handles are available in two lengths, to accommodate either shoulder-carrying or hand-held carrying.
COURIER BAGS measure 12"h x 14"w, and are made with a strap that can be worn over-the-shoulder or across the chest. They have an exterior pocket on the front flap (which covers the whole of the front of the bag), and pockets inside of the bag. All courier bags are lined with colorful cottons that compliment the color(s) found on the outside of the bag. Strap is constructed from burlap and cotton.
HANDBAGS are available in two sizes: 14"h x 12"w or 8"h x 10"w. Burlap and cotton shoulder straps can be tailored in length; standard is 20", which, when worn on the shoulder, puts the body of the bag about 6" below the armpit. For those who are taller or who may want to wear this bag across their chest, a 30" strap can be used instead.
